How to Format a Computer with Windows 7

Warning - Formatting hard drive information does not permanently erase the data. Even after a computer has been formatted, deleted files can be easily recovered. If you want to permanently wipe your hard drive by completely overwritting hard drive data, check out WipeDrive.
To format your hard disk during Windows 7 installation, you'll need to start, or boot, your computer using the Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive.

Turn on your computer so that Windows starts normally, insert the Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive, and then shut down your computer.
Restart your computer.
Press any key when prompted, and then follow the instructions that appear.
On the Install Windows page, enter your language and other preferences, and then click Next.
If the Install Windows page doesn't appear, and you're not asked to press any key, you might need to change some system settings. To learn how to do this, see Start your computer from a Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive.

On the Please read the license terms page, if you accept the license terms, click I accept the license terms, and then click Next.

On the Which type of installation do you want? page, click Custom.

On the Where do you want to install Windows? page, click Drive options (advanced).
Click the partition that you want to format and click Format.

If you have more than one partition on this hard drive and want to get rid them to make one big drive again, then select a partition and click on the Delete option for each partition. Once you have deleted all of the partitions, select the Unallocated Space partition and click Format.

Pick the formatting option that you want.

When you've finished formatting, click Next.

Follow the instructions to finish installing Windows 7, which include naming your computer and setting up an initial user account.

If you do not want to reinstall Windows 7, you can cancel the installation at this point and keep your newly formatted drives.

How to Format a Computer with Windows Vista

To format your hard disk during Windows Vista installation, you'll need to start, or boot, your computer using the Windows Vista installation disc or USB flash drive.

Turn on your computer so that Windows starts normally, insert the Windows Vista installation disc, and then shut down your computer.
Restart your computer.
Press any key when prompted, and then follow the instructions that appear.
On the Install Windows page, follow any instructions that are displayed, and then click Install now.
If the Install Windows page doesn't appear, and you're not asked to press any key, you might need to change some system settings. To learn how to do this, see Start Windows from a CD or DVD.

On the Get important updates for installation page, we recommend getting the latest updates to help ensure a successful installation and to help protect your computer against security threats. You will need an Internet connection to get installation updates.

On the Type your product key for activation page, do one of the following:

If you are reinstalling Windows Vista, you should enter your product key now.
If you are not reinstalling Windows Vista, you can skip this step.

On the Please read the license terms page, if you accept the license terms, click I accept the license terms.

Click the partition that you want to format and click Format

How to Format a Computer with Windows XP

The first step in learning how to format a computer with Windows XP or 2000, is to insert Windows CD and restart your computer.
Your computer should automatically boot from the CD to the Windows Setup Menu.
At the Welcome to Setup page, press ENTER.
Press F8 to accept the Windows XP Licensing Agreement.
If an existing Windows XP installation is detected, you are prompted to repair it. To bypass the repair, press ESC.
Use the ARROW keys to select the partition or the unpartitioned space where you want to create a new partition. Press D to delete an existing partition, or press C to create a new partition.
Type the size in megabytes (MB) that you want to use for the new partition, and then press ENTER, or just press ENTER to create the partition with the maximum size.
Select the format option that you want to use for the partition (Recommended: NTFS), and then press ENTER.
After the Windows Setup program formats the partition, follow the instructions that appear on the screen to continue installing Windows.

How to Format with Windows 95, 98, or ME

To reinstall Windows, you need a Startup Diskette and a Windows Installation CD.
Download the Startup Diskette Creator
Note: We recommend using the Startup Diskette available on this page. Other Windows Startup Diskettes may not work with the following steps.

Insert the Startup Diskette into the floppy drive and restart your computer.
Select option #1 - Start the computer with CD-ROM support.
After a minute or so, you will see "A:>_".
Type "fdisk" and press Enter.
If asked to enable large disk support, select Y for Yes. (Note: Some versions of Windows 95 may not be compatible with large disk support. Select N here if it does not support the FAT32 file system.)
Select Option #1 - Create DOS partition or Logical DOS Drive.
Select Option #1 - Create Primary DOS Partition.
The drive integrity will be verified.
Unless you are planning to make multiple partitions, select Y when asked if you want to use the maximum available size for the partition and to make the partition active.
The drive integrity will be verified again.
When completed press the Esc key to exit fdisk.
Without removing the floppy disk, press the reset button on the computer or press the keys Ctrl then Alt then
Delete and release them together. This will restart the computer.
Again, select the option to Start the computer with CD-ROM support.

At the A:>, type "format C:" and press Enter.
Press the Y key then the enter key when asked if you want to proceed with the format.
The format will probably take some time, so be patient.
You will be asked to choose a Volume Label, which is a name for your hard drive. It has no effect on the operation of your computer, you may choose any name you like.

How to Reinstall Windows XP

To reinstall Windows XP or 2000, imply insert Windows CD and restart your computer.
If your hard drive has not been formatted, Windows XP will walk you through the formatting process described above
Your computer will automatically boot from the CD and begin the installation process

How to Reinstall Windows 95, 98, or ME

After formatting your hard drive as described above, insert the Startup Diskette into the floppy drive and restart your computer.
Select option #1 - Start the computer with CD-ROM support.
After a minute or so, you will see "A:>_".
Place the Windows Install CD into the CD-ROM drive.
Type "E:" (where E is the letter assigned to the CD-ROM drive) and press Enter key.
Type "dir" and press Enter. You will see something like the following:
Volume in drive E is 020409_1121 Directory of E: WIN98_SE 04-09-02 11:21a 0 file(s)0 bytes 1 dir(s)0 bytes free
WIN98_SE is a directory, as indicated by the "" after it.
Type "cd WIN98_SE", replacing WIN98_SE with the result from above, then press the Enter key.
Type "dir" and press the Enter key.
If you see: SETUP somewhere in the output, then type "cd SETUP" and press the Enter key. Otherwise, skip this step.
Type "SETUP" and press the Enter key to begin the Windows setup program.
Simply follow the prompts to install Windows.
Remove the Windows Startup Diskette when prompted.

How to Break WEP Encryption by Backtrack

Breaking any encryption involves knowing a few things. First, you have to know that there is an encryption scheme. Secondly, you must know how encryption works. Breaking any code manually is near impossible; luckily, you can break the WEP encryption if you use a packet-sniffing program.

Steps

Use Linux. Windows cannot sniff WEP packets, but you can use a bootable CD of Linux.

Get a packet-sniffing program. Backtrack is a commonly-used option. Download the iso image and burn it on a bootable CD/DVD.

Boot Linux and Backtrack. Use your bootable CD/DVDs.
- Note that this operating system is not required to be installed on hard drive. That means whenever you shutdown the Backtrack, all your data will be lost.

Select a start-up option. The following Backtrack screen will show after booting. Change the option with the up and down arrow keys and select one. This tutorial will use the first option.

Load the graphical interface via command base. In this option, Backtrack is started on command base. Type command: startx to continue.

Click on terminal button at the bottom left. It'll be the fifth option.

Wait for the Linux command terminal to open.

View your WLAN type. Enter the following command: "airmon-ng" (without quotes). You should see something like wlan0 beneath Interface.

Get all the required information for the access point. Enter the following command: "airodump-ng wlan0" (without quotes). You should get three things:
- BSSID
- Channel
- ESSID (AP Name)
- Here's what the tutorial case turned up:
  - BSSID 00:17:3F:76:36:6E
  - Channel number 1
  - ESSID(AP Name)Suleman

Enter the following command. This one will use the example information above, but you should plug in your own. Command: "airodump-ng -w wep -c 1 -- bssid 00:17:3F:76:36:6E wlan0" (without quotes).

Allow setup to start.

Open a new terminal window. Type the following command, substituting the values for your own BSSID, Channel and ESSID. Command: "aireplay-ng -1 0 –a 00:17:3f:76:36:6E wlan0" (without quotes).

Open another new terminal window. Type the following command: "aireplay-ng -3 –b 00:17:3f:76:36:6e wlan0" (without quotes).

Allow setup to start.

Go back to the first terminal window.

Allow the data in this window to reach to 30000 or above. It will take 15 to 60 minutes (or more) depending on wireless signal, hardware and load on access point.

Go to the third terminal window and press Ctrl + c.

Pull up the directories. Type the following command: "dir" (without quotes). This will show the directories saved on it during decrypting.

Use a cap file. For the example, it would be the following: "aircrack-ng web-02.cap" (without quotes). The setup shown below will start.

Break the WEP encrypted key. After this setup completes, you'll be able to break the key. In this example, it was {ADA2D18D2E}.

Using Xhydra to hack AIM (Aol Instant Messenger) screen names.

I really Love Backtrack 5 and all the tools it comes with, Metasploit, Xhydra, Nmap, some of the most popular. But there's nothing i enjoy more than the feeling of success, the feeling you get when your hard work finally pays off, and the password goes through. I had a lot of fun doing this as a password pentester back in my younger days. i was surprised at just how easy it was to get peoples passwords using a brute forcer and the right server configuration. i was popular on AIM. i had over 160 friends, and what that meant is that i had over 160 active screen names to try and get the password to!
Here's how it's done.
Fire up a terminal, zenmap and Xhydra

ping smtp.aol.com your output should look like this:
In some circumstances the IP address will be different. i will supply you with the correct one; but hypothetically any IP address will work

step 1. ping smtp.aol.com (64.12.175.136)

step 2. port scan the IP address and verify port 587 (SMTP AUTH) is open

step 3. input data into Xhydra

port: 587
service: smtp

-password tab-
username: programmerdemon (or any screenname)
password: passwordlist (i have my own)
*others can be found in /root/pentest/passwords/wordlist/

How to install Backtrack 5 R3 to hard drive and Dual boot with Windows.

Believe it or not - a few of my readers are having a hard time with this. it's ok. I was there, many times before. Fortunately, Backtrack 5 is relatively easy to install to your hard drive and make bootable. I remember before Backtrack there was a linux distribution called P.H.L.A.K. Acronym for "Professional Hackers Linux Assault Kit". anyway, it was nearly impossible during the first few releases to install to the hard disk. you had to manually partition the drive yourself, configure the boot loader yourself and then hope that you don't lose any data creating the swap and Ext partitions. Backtrack 5 does it all automatically. I have a few pictures (taken with a smartphone) to help guide the way for you.
I highly advise installing backtrack 5 to the hard drive. the CD loader takes waaay to long to get anything done and you really don't need to use a whole lot of hard drive space.
First thing you need is a computer running backtrack 5 on a live DVD

Then all you have to do is click the Install Backtrack icon

Starting here:
go through each step
Step 1, 2 and 3 are Language, Time zone and keyboard layout.
After that, it can be a bit tricky re-sizing and partitioning the drive

What you want to do here is click "Install them side by side, choosing between them each startup"
what this will do is keep your windows or other OS partitions but resize them, making available disc space to install backtrack 5 on. at the bottom of the screen there is a slider - on the right side slide the slider to desired size of your backtrack partition. i chose 40.1gb. That's plenty for me. unless you're going to be keeping a lot of files and saving music and images, you really shouldn't need more than 30gb's.
click forward, then continue. the setup will then install backtrack after partitioning the drive
Keep in mind, the new boot loader will have BT5 as first option by default. just hit the down arrow to select your other os.

how to solve grub rescue in pc?

I have a dell inspiron 1545 laptop with a 500GB harddisk and 3GB RAM. There were two operating systems on it 1. windows 7 and Ubuntu 12. Due to the hartd disk space requirement I deleted the Ubuntu partition and two 500 MB partitions unknown to me. It was done when I was using windows operating system. I switched off the laptop and when i started it next day, it start showing a black screen after the dell logo screen with text as

error: no such partition
grub rescue>

also I tried to reinstall ubuntu from the DVD containing bootable ubuntu but the system not even detected the DVD in the CD-ROM DVD Drive. I don't want to loose my data from any partition, its very much important for me.
Also i tried following:

grub rescue>ls
(hd0),(hd0,msdos5),(hd0,msdos4),(hd0,msdos3),(hd0,msdos1)

grub rescue>set root=(hd0,msdos5)/boot

If u succeed with this SIMPLY GENERAL STEP, then use the same knowledge for tha ADVANVED STEPS Menu-advanced settings-then input 9949 as the code Leave tha home network, set network 2 and select Dstv W7 and input 12437as frequency and 23437 as symbol rate and pole = horizontal. Accept tha settings and scan all tha networksks . You will find channels by pressing TV on yo remote. And selecting PUBLIC W7. For yo HITV: Go to menu installation >> password=0000>>TP set up Click right and choose between newsat 1-25 to 35 click on it and click left. Scroll down to TP and move right again. Then insert 11785h27500 to get free channels..

THESE STEPS ARE ONLY FOR ADVANCED USERS
Settings for DSTV Multichoice The following settings are very easy to configure and work on all decoders. Step 1: On the remote press menu, then choose 'Advanced options' then choose 'Dish installation' Step 2: the pin code is 9949 Step 3: You will notice a screen that has Network 1, Network 2, Network 3, More Networks. NB: Ignore Network 1, it is for all the channels you currently have. Step 4: From Network 2 & onwards Enter the following Information: NB: The Satellite name you create for ALL is DSTV PAS7
Step 1: Before setting up your decoder, please ensure that your decoder software is upgraded to the latest version. To perform a software upgrade: Press the MENU button. Select "ADVANCED OPTIONS" and press OK. Select "DSD UPGRADE" and press OK. The decoder should start to upgrade the software now. If you are not sure about the version of your decoder software, you can contact Multichoice or your local DSTV technician/supplier and they will be able to help you.

Step 2: Press menu Select "Advanced Options" Select "Dish Installation" Enter the pin "9949" Select "Network Configuration" Select "Network 2 Setup" NB: Leave "Network 1 Setup (Home)" unchanged!! Step 10: Exit once to go back to the "Dish Installation" menu Select "Scan All Networks" Your decoder will go into scanning mode and might take a while to scan all 9 networks. Do not interrupt the process even if it seams to take longer than you expected! Once completed, your picture will return as normal

To access you public channels, press the "TV button" on your remote control. The "Bouquet Options" menu will appear. Select "Public PAS7/10" Pressing any of the arrow buttons on your remote, will open the screen with all the available Free to Air channels. Simply select the channel you wish to view and press ok to tune. To access the radio channels, simply select the "music note" on your remote (while still on Public PAS7/10 bouquet) and select which channel you would like to listen . . . . FREE DSTV INTERNET

The best free internet presently is dstv internet. You can make use of this free internet with dstv by the use of a cable modem and decoder.

Internet used this way doesnt affect the use of the decoder in watching dstv with your tv.

Its a simple procedure.

Tools needed:

A decoder (dstv, hitv) A cable modem Lan cables A router ( for more than one pc) Network configuration knowledge

STEPS: Connect the cable modem (with the splitter) to the co-axial port of your decoder Connect the RJ45 cable to the LAN port of your system Turn on the whole system Open your LAN and configure with 127.0.0.1 port: 8080 Then start your free internet.
